CHRISTY'S STORY

I am a single mom of two boys, Joshua and Matthew. In 2000, I became a single parent, it wasn’t “my plan”. I felt like such a failure. Divorce, how could it happen? I have no family in this area. I was “alone”, or so I thought. What would I do? I knew in my heart I had to go back and finish the education I began many years ago before marriage and becoming a mom. The reality of tuition fees and childcare costs seemed an inevitable roadblock. But I pursued the thought and dream. I applied to nursing school, applied for scholarships, and hoped and prayed. I want to thank you for believing in me. It’s been a long journey these past few years.

As it turns out, this is a story of success, rather than failure. Sometimes, we do find ourselves at the crossroads in life and we have to choose where to go from there. I graduated from Har-Ber School of Nursing in Springdale with honors. I have passed the NCLEX-RN and fulfilled all requirements to be entitled Registered Nurse. I currently work in the Intensive Care Unit in Bentonville. I am blessed with many opportunities to touch the lives of others, instill hope and provide a caring touch. I believe everyone needs someone to listen and care about them. Each patient is someone’s family member, and I always treat each one as such. I am proud of my clinical skills and my compassionate heart. Thank you for contributing to both.

Without you, I simply would not have succeeded. I had the dream and determination to make a better future for my children and myself. You were there to lend the helping hand and words of encouragement to fulfill that dream. You have been my blessing. I thank you everyday. You allow people, like me, to become a success. You instill hope in the lives of others.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but the struggles in life really do make us stronger. At that time I felt so “broken”. I have grown much these past years. Thank you for being a part of that growth. It’s not about “stuff” as we’ve gotten by with little. You taught me that it’s okay to ask for help. It’s about having courage and daring to dream. It’s about surrounding yourself with those who care and encourage and believe in you. It’s spreading hope and love to others. I want to give back to this organization so that others will continue to be blessed as I have been. Thank you!
